Wednesday 5th July 2017 - Repair Café - Kirkby Stephen Local Links

Kirkby Stephen starts Cumbria’s first Repair Café

What do you do with a broken toaster? Or with a bike when the wheel runs out of true? Or with a sweater full of moth holes? Bin it? No way! Kirkby Stephen Community Arts and Kirkby Stephen and Upper Eden Good Neighbours Scheme are organising Cumbria’s first Repair Café in Kirkby Stephen Local Links on Wednesday 5 July at 2pm.  

At Kirkby Stephen Local Links, on Wednesday 5 July everything is about making repairs. Starting from 2pm and ending at 4pm various volunteer repair experts will be available to help make all possible repairs free of charge. Tools and materials will also be on hand. People visiting the Repair Café will bring along their broken items from home. Toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, toys, crockery... anything that is broken is welcome.

Thursday 13th July 2017 - Mini Stompers - 1.00-3.00 pm - Jubilee Park, Kirkby Stephen

Mini Stompers is a monthly gathering for two hours of woodland fun for 0-5 year olds and their parents, friends or carers.  Prepare to get muddy!

£3.50 per person (under 1s go free) - what are you paying for? Two experienced practitioners, use of their amazing kit, two hours of fun and a cup of tea!

Monday 24 July - Summer Stomp - 11.00 am - 4.00 pm Jubilee Park, Kirkby Stephen

A chance for ages 6+ to turn off the screens and go wild for a day!  With a few tarps, a fire wok, some basic tools and crafting kit, we play, explore and make new friends in our local woodland.

£30 per child - what are you paying for?  Two experienced practitioners, use of their amazing kit, five hours of wild play and snacks (please bring a packed lunch).

Saturday 22nd July - Dales Young Rangers - We Dig Up Bainbridge....again

We go back to Bainbridge to help dig some more and hopefully see what has been found .  Anorther chance to go back and see what happens after an artefact has been unearthed.

Meet:  9.30 am at The People's Hall, Sedbergh or 10.00 am at Yorkshire Dales National Park Office in Bainbridge.
Finish: 1.30 pm at Yorkshire Dales National Park Office in Bainbridge and return 2.00pm to The People's Hall, Sedbergh

What is Relay for Life?
Relay for life is a year-round team fundraising challenge organised by a dedicated volunteer committee bringing communities together to beat cancer.  Teams of friends and family sign up to enter and fundraise for life-saving cancer research, then join a 24-hour celebration showing that together we are stronger than cancer.

Why not get together with family and friends and start a team to support Eden Vally Cancer Research UK?

Are you a local group, e.g. Scouts, Guides, Sports team who would like to enter, have fun and help beat cancer sooner?

Wednesday 26th July - Franks Bridge, Kirkby Stephen - Wild Wednesday - Children's event held by Yorkshire Dales National Park

11.30 am to 3.00 pm.  Free drop in for accompanied 5 to 12 year olds - all you need to bring with you is an adult for any tricky stuff, shoes you can paddle in and a towel (as long as the river isn't in flood!).


Wednesday 26th July - Dales Young Rangers - Himalayan Balsam Bashing in Sedbergh

To celebrate National Park week and the summer holidays we will be having a mass Himalayan Balsam Bash in and around Sedbergh.  Bring your family and friends as we try to eliminate this non-native invasive species.

To celebrate our great outdoors, culture, history and sense of place surrounded by the Yorkshire Dales National Park and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Walk 1 - Smardale Gill Nature Reserve 14.00 to 16.30
Exploring geology and landscape with Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
An easy walk along the disused railway line of Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, now in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  Looking for evidence of underlying rocks and geological processes which have shaped the landscape we see today.
