Wednesday 1st May – The Upper Eden Community Choir Spring Concert – Kirkby Stephen Grammar School Main Hall

with guest musicians.  7 pm.  Tickets available on the door –  Adults £5, children free.  Refreshments available and a raffle.

Friday 3rd May – Quiz Night – Kirkby Stephen Sports and Social Club

8 pm start.  £2 per person, max 6 per team.  Entry fee will be split with British Heart Foundation and cash prize.  All welcome.

Saturday 4th May – Eden Animal Rescue Fundraising Stall – The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen

9 am to 12.30 pm.  Back by popular demand is the Eden Animal Rescue Fundraising Stall, selling their usual home-made cakes and biscuits, jams and pickles.

Saturday 4th May to Monday 6th May – Art and Craft Exhibition 2024 – Warcop Parish Hall

10 am to 4 pm. Annual exhibition of Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography & Crafts by local artists.  Original artwork, prints and cards for sale.  Competitions, raffle and activities for children.  Art & Craft demonstrations & workshops.  Refreshments available.  Admission – adults £2.50, children free.  All proceeds to Warcop Parish Hall. Sunday 5th May – Drop In Collection for Great North Air Ambulance – Brough Memorial Hall

12 noon to 1 pm and 5 pm to 7 pm.  The usual items continue to be welcomed, that is, bedding (sheets, blankets, etc. but not duvets or pillows.  Clothing (any material including leather), belts, handbags and shoes (please fasten shoes together in pairs), books (in a box if more than six), inkjet printer cartridges (but unfortunately, not the larger laser toner cartridges, which now cost them money to dispose, since they can no longer be re-filled in the UK) and mobile phones (working or not, but for your own security, please remove the SIM Card if you know how).

Wednesday 8th May – The Arts Society Appleby presents `The Divine Sunflower in Art and Culture:’ – Appleby Market Hall

Friday 10th May – Kirkby Stephen Hearing Services (by Upper Eden Rotary Club) – Kirkby Stephen Local Links

10 am to 12 noon. Kirkby Stephen Hearing Services run their clinics for anyone needing repairs or servicing to their hearing aids, here at the Local Links on the 2nd Friday of each month.  This service is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY – please ring 07724132277.

Hearing aid batteries can be provided here at Local Links, free of charge, if you are registered at a doctors in Eden.  Our opening hours are Mondays and Wednesdays, 10am to 12 noon, and 1 pm to 3 pm. Please bring details of the battery size you require.

Tuesday 14th May – Soup and Sweet – Church Hall, Brough

12 to 1.30 pm Second Tuesday of each month.  Choice of lovely soups with bread rolls, delicious deserts and tea or coffee with cakes.  Served to your table by friendly volunteers.  No charge but donations welcome.  Come and join us for a tasty meal.

Wednesday 15th May – Meeting re Appleby Horse Fair 2024 – Public Hall, Appleby

Friday 17th May  – The Old Oak (12) – Kirkby Stephen Sports and Social Club

A pub landlord in a previously thriving mining community struggles to hold on to his pub.  Meanwhile, tensions rise in the town when Syrian refugees are placed in the empty houses in the community.

7.30 pm. Doors open 30 minutes earlier.  Adults £5, Children U18 £3.

Thursday 23rd May – Charity Fashion Show – The Kings Head, Ravenstonedale

5 pm for 6 pm start.  In aid of Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue.  Tickets £30.  Glass of fizz on arrival.  Models from across the North West showing some great styles for Summer/Autumn 2024 – you can buy anything that catches your eye on the night.  Plenty of great prizes to be won.  Live music from Molly Warburton.  For tickets call 015396 23050.

Friday 24th May – Family Ceilidh with hog roast and raffle – St Michael’s Church Hall

Brought to the big screen in Brough by popular audience request, this classic from 1997 hardly needs an introduction – the charismatic cast and heartfelt but humorous writing has made it a film that many people find hard to forget!
