Sunday 2nd September 2018, 10.30am – 4.30pm, The Moorcock Show

Why not come to a traditional Yorkshire Dales Sheep Show and see the best local breeds competing against each other.There will also be lots of local crafts and food stalls, together with the usual beer tent. For the children there is a bouncy castle and other games. Music will be provided by Hawes Silver Band and then later in the afternoon by a local singer.

Thursdays 6th & 20th September – Upper Eden Memory Club – Longway, New Road, Brough

10.30am to 12 noon

Following the success of the Upper Eden Memory Club at Kirkby Stephen we have decided to start a second group in Brough to enable us to continue to accept Clients and Carers into our Kirkby Stephen family. We enjoy fellowship over tea and coffee followed by guided activities and usually end with singing some favourite songs of old.

10.30am. We will do the full circuit of the Poetry Path.  A little extra time to allow for some pausing to see and hear some of our favourite poems.  Families and visitors welcome, sorry not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the day.  £1 suggested donation.

Friday 7th September –  Nateby & Wharton WI presents `Mercy Ships’ – The Friends Meeting House, Kirkby Stephen

7.00pm.  Our guest speaker is Mrs Frances King re Mercy Ships in West Africa who are working to eradicate diseases of poverty through hospital ships that deliver free, vital medical care to some of the worlds poorest countries.

Exhibition – Talks – Workshops. 10am to 4pm.  Free Admission. Thursday 13th September – Westmorland County Show – Lane Farm, Crooklands, LA7 7NH

Located on the fringes of the Lake District, Westmorland County Show is a fantastic day out – voted as one of the UK’s favourite shows and joined by 30,000 visitors each year.  A major livestock Show with classes for cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and alpacas, heavy and light horses too, there’s plenty to see.

Kirkby Stephen Community Arts are partnering with Stomping Ground this Summer to deliver AT THE RIVERSIDE, a programme of free events to celebrate a new river trail for Kirkby Stephen, and supported by Eden Rivers Trust and Heritage Lottery Fund.

11am & 2pm.  Field recording meets silent disco… explore the sounds of the river using high tech recording equipment with Sound Artist Dan Fox.  Meet at Frank’s Bridge. This exciting activity walk is suitable for Junior age plus.  Booking essential: email [email protected]

9.30am to 2.00pm.  3rd Saturday, each month.  No admission charge.

Summer is nearly over, but we always have something to suit the season.  Buy lamb, beef, pork, fish, poultry, eggs, bread, cheeses, cakes, photography, jewellery, textiles and much much more, from our regular stalls.

Eden Hearing Services hold a drop in clinic from 10.00am to 12 noon 3rd Tuesday of every month.  Services include advice on hearing aids and specialist equipment, hearing aids cleaned and retubed, batteries supplied.

Friday 28th September – Charity Night in aid of Kirkby Stephen Beavers, Cubs and Scouts – The Kings Head, Ravenstonedale

Pie and Pint night for £12, served between 6.00 – 8.00pm, with £5 from every meal going to charity.  Bookings now being taken.  Followed by a fun kids tv/cartoon quiz with questions based on some of the greatest kids tv/cartoons of all time.  9.00 pm start, £5 per team, maximum of 6 per team.  Mark/Muskey will accept no teams or people into the quiz once the quiz has started at 9.00pm.  Prizes to be won.  All in aid of Kirkby Stephen Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Saturday 29th September – Dales Young Rangers Archaeology Dig – The Roman Fort at Low Borrowbridge in the Lune Gorge

We have the opportunity to join members of the Lunesdale Archaeology Society who are investigating a pre-historic settlement close to the Roman Fort at Low Borrowbridge in the Lune Gorge. YDAC (Yorkshire Dales Young Archaeologists’ Club) will be joining us on site to enjoy a day at a real life archaeology dig, what will you find?

Saturday 29th September – Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome PJ-in-a-day celebration – The Cloisters, Market Square, Kirkby Stephen

11.30am. We are celebrating Alfred Wainwrights Pennine Journey in 1938 by walking our section of the Pennine Journey long distance trail.  The aim is for all the 247 mile Pennine Journey to be walked for charities in one day.  After a photographic opportunity at The Cloisters Alfred Wainwright stone we will walk via Hartley Lane to Nateby Inn for a lunchtime refreshment or bring a packed lunch.  Returning home via Wharton Hall or continue to Mallerstang and complete the section.
